Whaam Concepts are passionate about bringing brands and their people together. We have an unconventional approach to retail design, we know that a unique kiosk design can do wonders for a brand and we are firm advocates of the pop-up activations but the popup retail kiosk also has it’s place in the tool belt of the retail strategy for any brand.
In a move that started us on a years long journey with a favourite customer, we received an exciting brief from a little company called iFix (yup, before the weFix rebranding that we were also proud to be a part of). The project spoke perfectly our philosophy of creating unique environments for brand and people to engage in. We had the opportunity to conceptualise an unconventional and temporary retail application for the South African cell-phone repair specialists, that used borrowed the best aspects from various retail industry applications to create the super Pop Up Retail Kiosk structure.
We conceptualised this environment as modular, because it would be a temporary presence within mall walkways where iFix already had an established physical presence. The purpose of this decision was two-fold. It would build brand awareness amongst mall goers within “neutral” spaces and then drive increased traffic from the kiosks to their established stores.
The project was successful in both objectives. There was a lot of activity among the popup retail kiosk and positive engagement from interested consumers. There was also a sizable increase in foot traffic from the popup kiosk to the existing already established retail store at the mall, with no driving call to action at the popup kiosk – very impressive!
This project came together perfectly. This is the perfect example of every element working together perfectly so that the popup retail kiosk can become more than the sum of its parts. We incorporated our creative eye for retail design which means giving the customer not only an experience tailored to themselves, but one that makes them feel like the are part of the larger community, connecting with the brand itself as well as everyone else who has come to trust that brand. We tapped into the public’s love of getting something exclusive by executing the brief with a popup approach. This means that we really let customers know that this is an opportunity that can easily slip through their fingers, so they must act quickly. But elevating the popup aesthetic by using winning approaches from our kiosk design experience.
Combining all our favourite and most successful elements of retail and the retail industry meant that our popup retail kiosk is like a Mighty Morphin’ Mega Zord, hitting all the bullseyes from each of these separate methods simultaneously. We are thrilled when we are presented with challenges like this to face because it means we are on a direct path to the future and taking the industry and our customers along with us.
Retail is such a dynamic and engaging environment and with the right bit of unique creativity and unconventional perspectives, retailers and brands can successfully engage with their consumers, building relationships and taking the brand into a very real and exciting space.
