THE WORLD IS CHANGING, SO LET OUR DEFINITIONS, LIKE THE TRUE MEANING OF BRAND AMBASSADOR, CHANGE WITH IT

 

Our oh-so-outdated concept of a brand ambassador usually has something to do with vibrant youth, engaging with your product in the public arena. As a brand, you see the value of unique activations and unconventional pop-ups and brand activities. And of course, those events need to be manned by people who are inspired by your product, service, and brand, and in so being can then inspire others. But let’s really look into the meaning of the term.

An ambassador is a representative. A person who speaks on behalf of your brand. Not specifically the directors or executives, not the company in a business sense, not any particular department, but all of these components and how they work together as a whole – this is the brand. Your brand is the identity, the persona, the goals and vision that your company embodies, and that energy and characteristics that you want to be associated with the product or service. It is the mission of your company communicated through your logo, signature colours, and core values.

The more you think about who your brand ambassador, the further away you get from the idea of an animator hired for a specific event, and the more you realise that your real representatives are those who occupy your company walls for most of the week, and often even after hours. Your ambassadors manage your clients, and keep your suppliers on track, they balance your books, send your emails, they write your copy, and answer your telephones. Your brand ambassadors are your employees. The people without whom you wouldn’t even have a brand.

Every single person who receives a cheque must be considered a brand ambassador. Must believe in everything the company believes in and must live that brand in everything they do.

A tradition we have for letting our brand ambassadors know that their work is appreciated is our Whaam-Nerversary! The team gathers for cupcakes on the anniversary of one year with the company. Our Wonder Woman, Natalia Da Mota celebrated hers in August of 2017 and had this to say:

“So basically, you come in thinking you’re this amazing person, and you’ve got it all down, and you know what you’re doing. And before you know it, you fail horribly! You’ve fallen in the sand, but you learn to get up, dust yourself off, and do better.

Fly higher, hit harder, be stronger.

It’s been such a… (I don’t know if this is a word) “maturing” experience! I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’ve loved all the highs, and as for the lows… I’ve learned that failure is something to be proud of. If you understand how to grow from it, the result… one word: SUCCESS.
