Whaam Concepts recently completed a stunning unique kiosk design with a jewellery design company me.mi. This luxury brand had great success selling their stunning pieces online and saw value in supplementing their digital presence with a physical one. This seems counter-intuitive to the popular notion that retail is moving to the online space. But forecasts about the future can often be incorrect, or misleading. Of course many people enjoy the convenience of shopping from their living room couch; in some countries you can even buy a car online – but just because this is happening more often, it does not necessarily mean that everyone is moving in this direction and that there are no companies moving in the opposite direction.
As human beings we crave connection. That is undeniable, we are a social species. Yes, many people find a community that they really feel at home with online, but shopping is a experience that needs to happen in person. Malls have a special vibe that many people find energizing. And when it comes to retail, being able to touch and feel the product before your purchase is so comforting – especially considering how hard we all work to be able to earn the means to make those purchases.
Brands who see value in physical retail spaces also understand the importance of putting thought into the layout of that environment.
